Twisted Pine was founded by Colorado beer legend Gordon Knight in 1995. A little over a year later, Knight sold the brewery to friend and current owner, Bob Baile. Baile had recently founded Peak to Peak Brewing in Rollinsville, CO, but decided to move down to Boulder and merge the two breweries together under the Twisted moniker.

Originally focused mainly on bottling and distributing its beers, a move to a larger facility on Walnut St. in 2003 prompted the addition of a tasting room, known as the Ale House. Popularity amongst locals led to gradual growth of the ale house operation, and a kitchen was added in 2010 to provide small bites for hungry patrons. An expansion in 2012 added more seating and increased the kitchen size, allowing the cooks to evolve beyond simple bar snacks and focus on creating an inventive, beer-infused menu full of tasty treats.

In 2018, Twisted Pine expanded the ale house draft system to 30 lines and acquired a pilot system for brewing smaller batches of beer. A team of brewers already known for experimentation suddenly found themselves with an opportunity to take exploration of flavors to a whole ‘nother level.

Today, our ale house is a gathering place for local residents, a happy hour haven for nearby business people, a spot to bring your family and friends when they visit beautiful Boulder, a venue for charitable benefits, a sunny patio with a gorgeous view of the Flatirons, a site for graduation and birthday parties, a sports zone for Sunday football and home to the best pizza in Boulder.
